PROJECT: Facility Steam Usage Metering Project

A west coast state prison facility requested that they have installed the ability to meter the amount of steam energy used in their laundry facility with the intention of charging the laundry contractor a usage fee. I was asked and provided an instrument design, material specification, installation construction design, and instrument programming configuration. I choose to use the HART programmable Rosemount 3051S Multivariable differential pressure transmitter mounted directly to the flow orifice adapter plate. The transmitter programming configuration was performed by the Rosemount software from my laptop PC using a HART modem and configured so that the 4-20mA output signal was equivalent to units of the rate of energy use (Btu/hr).
